South African Airways: Rental of two aircraft to strengthen its domestic flight program

South African Airways is set to strengthen its domestic services by recently leasing two Boeing 737-800s from Sun Express. From 20 October 2023, these aircraft will operate between the major cities of Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, with the aim of increasing connectivity and convenience for travelers within South Africa.

The move is part of SAA’s efforts to revitalize and expand its services following a turbulent period for the airline. The leasing of these new aircraft demonstrates SAA’s commitment to improving its domestic operations, providing passengers with more options and flexibility when traveling between these important cities.

The Boeing 737-800s are aircraft renowned for their efficiency, reliability and the comfort of their passengers. With a capacity of approximately 162 passengers, they represent a suitable solution for SAA to meet demand on these popular domestic routes. The aircraft’s operating range of approximately 3,180 nautical miles makes it possible to cover the three local cities without any problems.
